Gas Department, has been presented by the' staff of the Petone Borough Council with nil ebony . brush, suitably inscribed. The Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan), in making the presentation, referred to the regret all i'elt at Miss' Coward's severing her connection with a 6ta(V of which fiho had proved such"a capable member.
The wedding took place at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, New Plymouth, on September 3, of Miss Elizabeth Mary (Klina) Beck, youngest daughter of-Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Beck, of Now Plymouth, to Mr. George 11. Kvnns, of Waruku, Auckland, elde.it son of .Mr. and Mrs. C. Evans,'"of New Plymouth. Tim Rev. Oscar Blundell officiated, and Miss Gladys Way played approprin.lo music on the organ. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of ivory "crepe de chine with overdress of lace with pearl trimmings, and a veil fastened with orango blossoms. She carrfcd a bouquet of wlrito hj;acinths, heath- and maidenhair fern. Miss Ruth Evans (sister of tho bridegroom) nnd Miss Eva Hyde, of Wellington, were bridesmaids, and wore white frocks with hats to match and carried bouquets of spring flowers. Mr. Gordon Beck, of Ohakune, was best man, nnd Mr. Charles Evnug, of New Plymouth, was groomsmen. The church had been yen- prettily decorated for the occasion by g:TI friisiids of the bride. and after the ceremony a reception was held, the bride !and bridogroom leaving lai'er on their ' wedding trip.

An. .'Auckland Wedding. The marriage took place on September 1 at the residence of Mrs. .Tohn Smith, "Brompton," lit. Smart Road, Onebunga, of Violet May, eldiest daughter nf Mr. and Mrs. J. Smith, apd Mr. A. E. Barns.' eldest son of the late Mr. A. Barns, of Wnng'anui. The ceremony was porformcd by tho Rev, .T. Bergen, of St. Peter's. Onehunga. Th# bride, who was given away by he? father, wore | a mole-coloured costume,. with hat to match, trimmed ' with Ruches of saxo blue and pink. Miss Hilda Snutli, sister of tho bride, acted as bridesmaid, Sho wore a frock of saxo blue crepe de cliine, prettily embroidered and a large black tulle hat. Tho duties of best man were performed by Mr. Allan Hall, of Lichfield Waikato. After the ceremony, breakfast was served, the usual toasts being honoured.' St. Andrew's Sals of Work; A sale of work organised by tlie St. Andrew's Presbyterian Guild 111 aid of the Presbyterian orphanages and St Andrew's Church buildings fund was onened in the Terrace Congregational Church 'yesterday afternoon. by Mrs. W. F. M«ssflv. She was received by Mr. ,t' Holmes and Mrs. Blackford, president of tho Women's Guild, and presented with a lovely bouquet made and donated bv Miss Cooper. The stalls were stocked with all maimer of dainty and useful articles and the flower sta'l with its quantities of narcissi (white and yellow), primroses, hyacinths and- flowering shrubs.was a very gladdening sight.
