NORTHERN COAL DISPUTE
T\ t O "WORK IN WAIKATO MINES YESTERDAY, By Telegraph—Preßs Association. Auckland, September 7. There is no change report }n connection with the coal strike in tho Waiicato mines, and no work was done today. The Huntly minors will hold a meeting to-morrow. There was a consid•rratilo demand for coal in the city to day in anticipation of a shortage. NO CHANGE REPORTED. No change was reported yesterday in' respect to the disputes at the Waikato and West Coast coal mines. Mr. J. Arbuckle, secretary of the Miners' Federation, is at present in the south, where efforts aro being made by Mr.' P. Holly, Conciliation Commissioner, to effect a settlement of the troubles at the Matauia and- Gore mines. Tho number of men affected by tho strike at the Taupiri Extended, Rotowaro, and Pukemiro mines is GOO. Ut that total only 150 men aro directly concerned in the demand for icduced railway fares. The men working in the Taupiri Extended mine do not need to travel by train, and we apparently out in sympathy with the others.
