RETAINED BY DEMPSEY MISKE KNOCKED OUT IN THIRD ROUND (By Telegraph-Press Association-Go iiyrleht Benton Harbour, September G. Dompsey knocked out Miske in tho third round. In tho first round Miske booked his loft to Dempsey's head, and danced round. Then Dempsey landed a right .and a left and two rights to tho head, and tho two exchanged body punches. In the second roulid tho boxers rushed into a clinch. Denipsoy landed a left hook on the breakaway, and floored Misko with tho right, and he took tho count for five. In round three Dempsey danced round and hooked hard with the right to tho body. Miske landed a left on tho jaw, and Dempsey swung his right, knocking Miske down. Montreal, September G. Three hard smashes retained the championship for Dempsey. The end nearly camo in the first round, when Dempsey drove a pile-driver under tho heart. Miske's groan was ,heard all over tho ring. He fell into a clinch to save himself. and tenaciously clung to Dempsoy, while tho refereo tried to pry him looso. Ho never fully recovered, anil showed ho wa6 a badly hurt mam" Miske went down the first time in tho second round, when Dempsoy crashed another into him, hurting his ribs. As tho pair met in tjio third round Mniiio shifted his position, and surprised the champion with a terrific left hook to tho jaw, but Dempsey got in a similar blow at onco, and Misko collapsed. Misko rose on the count of nine, and gazed dazedly over the throng. Dempsey measured tho distance. and crashed a blow over tho left shoulder. The challenger was beyond the stage of making an effort to block, and dropped in his tracks. A report that a rib was broken was unfounded. A rib was badly bruised, his jaw was sore, and lie had a terrific headache; otherwise ho was none tho worse. The end came in one minute, thirteen seconds.
