LADIES* CHAMPIONSHIP TOUENAMENT. Br Teleeranh-Prcss Association. Gisborne, September G. ' The ladies' hockey championship tour« nnment was continued to-day under unpleasant conditions. A cold southerly wind Wew across the ground, and frequeiif, showers of rain fell. The second spells of the last two games, Mannwatu v. Hawke's Ray and Poverty Bay B v. Auckland, were played in almost continuous rain. The attendance was estimated at fifteen hundred. Tho grounds were in good order.

In A Section, Wanganui defeated Wairarajm by three goals to two. The'gamo was not "particularly interesting, and the play generally was not up to the standard of the other matches played during the afternoon. For Wanganui Miss Perritt scored three goals, and Miss Orr scored two for Wairarapa. In the second match in A Section, Pov. erty Bay A defeated Wellington by four goals to two. The game was a firstclass exhibition throughout, both sides showing good combined play. The game was a. hard-fought one, and t the score by no means represents the difference in. the teams. For the winners three goals were scored by Miss Pearce, and one by Miss Hill. Miss Williams scored both goals for Wellington. In B Section, Poverty Bay B met Auckland, but from the opening hits the northerners showed superiority, and the result was never in doubt. Thu pretty passing rushes and quick runs of the winners gained much app ause. > Auckland won by four goals to nil. the. scorers beimr Misses Lowe, Hamlin, Lamb, and Tanner. The second B Section, game, between Hawke's Btiv and Manawatu was mterthroughout, but Hawkcs Bay were much too good for their opponents, and the scores are a fair indication of the difference of the two teams: The nawke's Bay players' work was fn*t and bright, and they ™re superior in every class of the game/ Miss Herlihy $1 and Miss Lean (1) scored for the tinners, and Misses Pitt and Kersal for the losers.
