CRICKET

ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL REPORT.

ThD annual report of the Wellington Cricket Association lias been circulated. This records the /act that last season was ono of great uctivity. An unprecedented number of representative matches wero played, and tho association's' policy in promoting' matches witli the smaller associations met with special approbation from the New Zealand Cricket Council. The report deals at length with tho finances of ;he associatibn. A small loss was suffered as tho result of last seaeon's operations, tho balance of expenditure over income being .£ls 16s. There, wero two main causes which contributed to that: (a) The inevitable expense attached to tho wouthern tour to Chrastchurch and Dunedin and tho northern tour to Auckland which the association was iu duty bound to undertake, (b) Tho reduction ef ground fees chargeable to junior clubs from Is. to 6d. per player per Saturday, which has resulted _m a shrinkage if ground fees from .£lsl 5s Gd. in 1918-19 to .£96 9s.' 6d. in 1919-20. Apart from the loss which tho association suffered as 'ho result of the northern and southern tourß (and which it is confidently expected will be more than made good as a result of the return representative matches to be played in Wellington during tho forthcoming season) and the shrinkage in ground fees, a material increase in most of the other items which go.to make up the association's annual revenua account is noted. The return from practice wickets on the Basin Heserve showed a slight falling off due to the enforced restriction on th» number oi wickets available. "These items show that although the association has made'a small loss during the season it has by no means . retrogressed." The thanks of the association are accorded to Messrs. T L. Austin, S. I'. Wilson, and C. S. Hammond, of Christchurch, for acting as delegates to the New Zealand Cricket Council, to the umpires and scorers who officiated during the season, to the Press for its reports of meetings and matches, and to the honorary members for their continued support.
