Once every year a rather quaint ceremony is observed at Grormvieli Observatory. An inspection of the Observatory is made by a "Board of Visitors" to whom the Astrnnomer-Boyul presents a report on the work of the prooerlins twelve mouths. The latest renort shows that although the Observatory was founded cei't'iirirs ago, at the very dawn nf scientific navigation, it keeps in line with the latest developments. A new aerial has been erectrd to extend the range over which wireless time sicnals can he received. These signals are now received regularly from the Eift'el Tower, Naueh, and Annapolis. The Observatory also controls the o/ieratinn of time-balls in 'different parts of tli;o country. These time-balls are hoisted on a prominent mast Mid released at specific hours by an electric signal from the Observatory. The accuracy of the operation is cheeked by a return signal from the distant) timeball. Greenwich also controls "Big Ben." the famous clock of the Houses of Parliament.
