PARTY OF FRENCH SOLDIERS IN AUCKLAND
By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, August 31. Forty-two French soldiers arrived from Sydney with the Malieno this : morning, on their way homo to Tahiti. The littlo band has been engaged for moro than two years in quelling various native rising amongst tho kanakas in New Caledonia. Amongst their number are three wounded and thoy have left ono man in New Caledonia, a victim of kanaka treachery. Only two Frenchmen, one of whom is accompanied by his wife nnd child, aro in the party; the remainder are native Tahitian-s. Accommodation has boon found for the men in Auckland until the departure of tho Talune, by which they will return homu. '
