A .War Office communique states:—The situation in the Muntafik area, between tho Lower Tigris and tho Lower Euphrates, grows more ominous. A violent jehad is being preached. Tho situation around Samawa also causes anxiety. Movements of rebel bands have J>een observed, and renewed attacks are expected. Fifteen hundred attacked Hillnh on August 26, but were repulsed by heavy sheiifire. There has been a recrudescence of sabotage against the Bag-dad-Shergat railway. It is reported that Government officials have been molested eastward of Bagdad. Tho construction of blockhouses on the railway from, Bagdad to Baku has begun.—Reuter..
