The Department of Agriculture has received -the following cablegram, dated August 23, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London;— "Meat.—Market quiet, supplies larger, an<l prices lower at the close of the market, except for a email supply of fresh mutton and lamb. Beef, Is. 4jd.; mutton, Is. l)d.; lamb,' Is. lOd. Imported making barely maximum fixed' prices. "Butter—lrish'very scarce, and quoted at .£'2l 10.5. to .£22, but at these extreme rates buyers are more reserved. ■ English supplies small'; average price Is £21. "Cheese.—-Demand for English, continues very. slow, finest farming quoted at £8 12s. to £9 (is.: Canadian market firmer, but demand at the higher prices only moderate.. Spot quotations: White, £7 lCs. to £7 ISs.; coloured, 2s. nioro; quotations e.i.f. vary considerably, >«ncvug 'from £7 17s. to £8 Ss. "Hemp.—Manila market firm, with moderate demand. "J" grade, May-July to July-September shipments quoted' at. £6G 10s.; September-Novem'ber shipment sold £67. New Zealand market continues dull. Present quotations are:— Spot, high-points, £55;. fair, £53; AugustOctober shipment, £53 and £31 respectively. . , "Honey.—Demand slow. At this week s public sales IGB2 packages West Indies were offered, and Gl sold; price lower.
