MAGISTRATE'S COURT
POLICE AND MAINTENANCE OASES. Mr. J. 6. Evans, 's.jr. dealt with the police cases in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Victor Bass and Benjamin Norman Campbell were Jointly cjiarged with the theft of a i crayfish, valued at 25., the property of Henry Paris, of Adelaide Koad. Bass was further chnrced with obstructing Constable J. J. Jlarvey while in the execution of his duty. It appeared that on Saturday afternoon the two accused went into the fish shop to make a. purchase, and the proprietor went to the back of the shop to est what was ordered. On returning to the front of the shop he saw Campbell leaning over the crunter and taking the iish. Campbell cleared off. but was caught by a constable and arrested for theft. On tho way to the station they met Bass, who put himself in front of the constable, and delied him to take Campbell to the police station. He waß then arrested for obstructing the nol.iccman. For this offence Bass wub fined 20?., and for being- concerned in the theft of tho crayfish ho was fined %. Campbell, who had a record, was sent to prison for 14 days. A remand for a week was granted in the case of Andrew B. B. Somcrvilre, who was charpred that on or about August 24 he stole 355.. the property of Simr Le«. On the application of Jtr. W. Perry, who appeared for the accused, bail was fined at £i in one surety, or a deposit of the amount. For committing n grossly Indecent net in Jcrvois Quay on Sunday William Kvaua was fined 40a. Convicted for drunkenness for the second time Albert E. Hooper war, fined 10s. / Edna Gilmour, cook at the Brunswick Hotel (for whom Jl>. H. F. O'Lcary appeared) was charged with the thctt on August 9 of a ladv's muff, valued at £12, the property of Leila Howard. The police stated that the accused and her pißler and another were in the Union Company's office, where two of the women were booking passages to Ran Frnnclwu. The complainant had also been in the office and left her muff behind. It was seen by the accused and her companions and one of them sugqer.t'd that they should hold it for a reward. The accused's sister took the muff with her to her room at the Brunswick Hotel. The. two other women subsequently left for America. Tho accused was ouite frank with the police. The information was dismissed.
MAINTENANCE CASES.Gerald Thomas Silk was ordered to nav IS'- tier week towards the Btipport of his child. George Cameron, who was In arrears mi a maintenance order to the extent of £8, was sentenced to two months' imnrisonment, the warrant, to he suspended il the amonnt is paid, together with £1 Is cofltn. William George Hauer. whoso nrre?rp totalled £17. was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. John Cordon, who was In arrears to the extent, of £13 195.. was sentenced to two months' imprisonment, the warrant to ho suspended if he nays the amount due, together with £2 2s. solicitor's fee.
