ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS

ANNUAL MEETING. Tlie annual meeting of the New Zetland Academy of Fine Arts was held in the Art Gallery (Whitinoro Street) last night. Mr. T. Shailer Weston (president) occupied the chair. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, the resident expressed the thanks of mombers to Mr. B. W. Hunt (lion, treasurer) for the convenient way,in which he had presented the figure* dealing with the year's operations. The year had been a successful one. Thero had been a profit on the annual exhibition, and the loss on inn sketch exhibition amounted only to * shilling. Mr. Weston believed that there "„? growing appreciation of art m Wellington. He hoped that members would not forget what was due to fh« academy, and would follow the splendid example set by the late Mr. W. S. Keid in the making of-valuable gifts to the institution.

_ Following aro the officers for the ensuing year:-President, Mr. T. Shailer Weston; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. Ellis W. A. Bowring; council, Miss D. K Richmond, Messrs. N. Welch, C. Wilson W. -Grnv Young, E. M. Fuller, E. W. Hunt A. Bender, and Dr. W. Fell; hon. treasurer Mr H. E. Anderson;. auditor, Mr. u I). Morpeth; secretary, Mr. H M Gore. _ The president said that a proposal to increase the size of the annual subscription nad been withdrawn. Sinoo the annual report had been published, the memberslup had grown, and was now well over 400. Ho jocularly suggested that intendmir new members should link up with the academy before the annual exhibition, since last year it had happened that most of the prize-winners in tho art union were new members. Mr. Weston told the meeting that ae had not yet despaired of seeing the Gov eminent adopt the proposal to erect a Dominion Gallery as a notional war memorial. The suggestion had not so far .been favoured ■by the Government, but he hoped that something migibt yet bo done to obtain approval for it.
