A boxing contest between Uren (9st. 71b.) aiul Holmes (9st. 71b.) was held in tho Town Hall before a big house. It went the full distance, the referee (Mr. Cndman) declaring a draw. Holmes was prominent in the early stages, ducking under Uren's. guard and scoring hard with his right to the ribs. Uren, who was cool throughout, connected often with his rights and left to tho face. In the. thirteenth round . Uren floored Holme.?, wbio took the count for nine, but rose full of fight, and toro in ivith both hands to the body. Uren continued poking out his right to the face, and had Holmes thinking hiard. In clinches both scored to tho body, Uren displaying a lot of strength. Tn a preliminary amateur six-round contest, Neilson (Blackball) was fiivwi the decision against Wilcox (Waiuta). It was a hard gruelling fight throughout, Wilcox showing what little science was displayed. Both men were tired towards the finish. Wilcox was unlucky to loirc.
