FENDER SCORES CENTURY IN RECORD TIME. London, August 26. Fender made a hundred runs in thirtyfive minutes- beating Jessop's record of forty minutes, made in 1897. His 6Core included five sixes and sixteen fours. He gave two chances. His driving was wonderful. Playing against Kent, Hendren made eighty-four in forty-three minutes, including one six and thirteen fours, by terrific hitting.
Nothing is settled re regards an amateur team for New Zealand, but efforts are being made to 6end one. There is a strong desire to send n. team if possible, as the team for Australia will be unable to visit New Zealand. The Marylebone Clnb is quite in favour of the scheme.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP. (Kec. August 29, 5.5 p.m.) London, August 27. Middlesex beat Kent by 153 runs. Lancashire beat Essex by 188 runs. Sussex boat Yorkshire by 162 runs. Surrey beat Northants by eight wickets. Northants mado '.430 in tfto second innings. The aggregate runs for the match. 1475 for twenty-seven wickets, is a record in the county competitions. The best previous aggregate runs for a match was 1446 for thirty-three wickets.
The championship order now is: Middlesex, 75.78 per cent, of wins to matched played; Lancashire, 73.G0; Surrey, 71.81. To-day's play eliminated the chances of Kent and Yorkshire, but the championship remains very open, and depends on the final, round, opening to-morrow. Lancashire is expected easlly_ to defeat Worcester. A sterling game .iB expected betwen Surrey and Middlesex at Lord's. A victory for Middlesex would be regarded as a fitting termination to Warner's career.
The Marylebone Club has invited Calthorpe and Rotherham? of Warwickshire, to go to New Zealand. Calthorpe, who is captain of the Warwick eleven, and ex-captain of Cambridge, has accepted.— Aus.-N.Z.
