WANTED A "LOYALIST EMPIRE LEAGUE"
Sir,-I note over in Australia a lcaguo styled as above has been founded, tho objects of which are to combat, and, if necessary even fight, tfhe disloyal and revolutionary factions which are in the present day so activo in nil parts of our beloved Empire, and the leaders of which make np secret of their desiro to burst jtj'P and destroy all forms, of constitutional Government. Sir, ag a worker (and.it hard ono at that), I havo become convinced that neither their official paper, nor tho leaders of the eitreniist section, care c» "tinker's cuss" for tho workers, or, as a class, tlhcy are simply using us as so many steps in tho ladder by which they hope to climb on to tho box of the State coach. Onco let these fanatics attain to such eminence and power, and we workers would quickly find ourselves tipped out of tho fryin" pan bang into tho fire, nnd instead of being free men as we are, the protection of the British flag, wo should all become conscripts liko tho victims of communism in Russia. Instead of getting a good wage for working from 6ix to eight- hours a day, we will bo compelled to work from twelve to sixteen hours, the whole time under tho whip of an army of tvra.nnical overseers. This Dominion is often referred to as "God's own country," "the working man's paradise," in other words, a heaven upon earth, but if some cranks could have their way it would very fecon become a hell upon earth and a country tho genuine worker would be jr.ighty glad to bo out of. A league such as suggested by the heading of this letter should be able to prevent, such a dire calamity, and I hope to hear of its successful inauguration. If set going on right lines, every loyal man and woman weald subscribe to it.
Speaking as a unionist, I know that every labour union has its percentage of extremists who always manage to monopolise the official positions and rule the roost, and tho moderate and loyal elements have to take a back scat, for it is more than their bread and tutter is worth to raise a dissenting voice, ns they would at once become marked'men. This has been my experience. In short, it is the tyranny of unionism which is its strength to-day. Loyalists and (ill lovers of this greatest Empire on thJa earth,
I appeal to you to bo up and doing ere it is ioo late! ' Do not continue your apathetic attitude, closing your eyes to the dangers ahead. Yon cannot allow these irresponsible disloyalists who aro enjoying the benefits of our liberal Constitution, which has been made securo for them at the expense of tho lives of of thousands of tho pick of the Empire's manhood, to besmirch tho flag which is tho 6ymbol of freedom and which they do not hesitate to make the utmcst use of for the purposes of their disloyal propaganda. Are you going to allow these dangerous elements to shape this country's future destiny? If not, then, for heaven's sake, wake up! What more glowing tribute to the freedom enjoyed under the British (lag ccukt be found than the fact that these same anti-British extremists can day-in and dny-out go on inculcating their treasonable doctrines and still keep out of gaol. —I am, etc., i
