WELLINGTON GAS COMPANY, LIMITED. NOTICE AND WARNING TO CONSUMERS. nnHE Company is pleased to intimate that the Gas Supply n-ill be RESUMED TO-DAY. 1 All consumers are particularly desired to see that all taps, bye-passes, or other outlets of gas appliances aro properly closed. This is imperatively necessary in order 'o remove all possibility of accident from escapes of gas at burners and other appliances. The Company further desires to intimate that it will bo some hours after the supply is turned on before the gas will be of standard quality. This is due to the fact that at present the main pipes ere filled with air, which must be exhausted before good gas is available. J. H. HELLIWELL, Secretary.

NEW ZEALAND CLEARING OFFICE ' GERMAN~DEBTS. THE Controller of the Clearing Office desires to warn the Public that the Imperial authorities advise attempts are being made by German agents ,or principals to obtain direct settlement or payment of their pre-war debts from their British creditors. By, the terms of the Treaty of Peaco Order, 1920, it is unlawful for any person to pay, or aocept payment, of a debt coming within the provisions of Article 296 of the Treaty of Peace of Versailles, and communication between the parties interested as debtor or creditor is forbidden. Any person contravening this provision is liable to be proceeded against and punished as if he had been guilty of the offence of trading with the enemy. Severe penalties are similarly imposed by German law on German nationals contravening this provision of the Treaty. Persons or firms to whom overtures have been, or may be, made for the settlement of pre-war debts except through tho Clearing Office, are requested to communicate immediately full particulars to the Controller of the New Zealand Clearing Office, Public Trust Dfiice, Wellington. New Zealand nationals who are creditors of German nationals in respect of pre-war debts, and who have not yet notified their claims to the Clearing Office, should do so before September 30, 1920, which date no nuch claims will jo considered.
