SEA INVADES HOKITIKA
WAVES WASH UP AMONG HOUSES. ;Br TelecraDli—Prcßs Association.. tt ' Greymouth, August 2G. Nows was received from Bokitika tonight that the sea had inundated tho nortliern end of the town. There was a heavy .nor'-wester all day, and ns the tide reached the full about 7 o'clock, what is described as a veritable tidal wave came up past the houses on the bench; side of Rcvell Street. The water reached to the Catholic Church, in the third block back from tho waterfront. The people are much; alarmed, and have had to abandon houses to-night on the west side of North Eevell Street, which has piles of timber and driftwood on the roadway. The sea came up rights-of-way, and rose as high as the windowsills. All the outhouses on tho beach were demolished. There were several other waves up to 7.30 p.m., and after each the sea receded a good distance. It is hoped that the wind will moderate by to-morrow's tide.
