TAHORA SETTLERS
AN ASSOCIATION FOEMED. A Settlers' Association was formed n* Tiahorn, near Stratford. Inst week.' Mr. Kennedy was elected chairmnn of the association, and Mr. W. Korr secretary. On the motion of Mr. M'Carty, seconded by Mr. N. Shcwry, it was decided: "That the train service, Whangamcmona, has at present been granted to us as far as Kohuratahi, and that tha Tuesday's train from Stratford leave one hour later." It was agreed, on the motion of Mr. S. Pittams, seconded by Mr. Selby: "That the Tahora. ninif be sorted in Stratford instead of Whangamoinona, eo as to hasten the Tahora mail service" The association decided to ask (as proposed by Mr. Gwilliams and seconded by Mr. Carter): "That a money order oflico bo installed, and that the post and money-order office and station be com-.. Mr." Kennedy moved: "That, the Government bo urged, in order to-secure road metal, to put in a light tramway for a distance of about 35 miles from Tahorn, whicli would aiso deal with the coal deposits in the same vicinity. -Seconded ty Mr. M'Carty, and carried. _ The association also dealt with tiecharge for cattle trucks from Kohuratahi to Tahora, and the delay caused by having to change trains at Kohuratahi. . The district oimincer is to be asked to move the goods-shed to a more oonvem* ""it waß°decided to ask the Whaiigamo.mona Council to support the association in urging the Government to take action in regard to the supply of metal.
