CARRIERS' INTERESTS
I A representative gathering of suburban oarriers look place at the Lower Ilutt on Tuesday evening, the outcome of which will result in city and suburban carrierß' combining forces. Mr. T. A. Munt (vicepresident) explained that the meeting haa. been convened with a view to placing before suburban carriers the aims and objects of the Wellington Association, and emphasising . tho need for co-operation. After a general disoussion it was resolved: "That the members present are of tho opinion that it would be to the mutual advantage of all should suburban carriers become' members of the Wellington Association," a course which they later on in the meeting ■ decided to adopt, those present signing the required form. Proposed new tariffs suitable to Lower Hutt, Petone, and the bays were then drawn up. Messrs. Tosswill, Peok, and Baldwin wero appointed to call a meeting of Lower Hutt carriers, when the proposed tariff will be elaborated in detail. Messrs. Miller, King, and Farley, were appointed 'to convene a meeting of Petono carriers for a similar purpose. It was also resolved that a meeting of tho above delegates be held •at an early date to review the tariffs relative to both townships, after which a, delegate from each place will submit same to the Wellington Executive. Eeferenct was also made to the inadequate facilities for handling gopds at Lower Hutt and Petone stations.' Mr, Tosswill drew attention to the fact ■that carriers' conducting business through Petone, Upper Hutt, and Lower Hutt were called upon to ps,y a license fee for each district. i ' , ' | .
