GALLANTRY RECOGNISED
EESOTOBFBOM DEOWNING. Onllant acts of rescuing people from drow dug in tho harbour were recognised, at last mght's meeting of the Welhns on Harbour Board, when certificates from the Caf Humane Society were Resented by tlip chairman Mr. J. «. Harkness. ino men to whom the certificates od were •-Archibald Black, of the Harbour Board s ail. for rescuing Edward Larwood from drowning at the Taranaki S ree breastwork, on November 14, 1918; William Ss Wr ght, of Bona Bay, and Thomas Donnelly Lewis, of Bona Bay. who assisted each other in rescuing William Henry Ohappel, Bona Bay, on April 21. 1919; a George Bennett, of Eastbourne, who rescued Lucy Doris Kershaw; at Bona Bay, ou January 7, 1919. Mr. Black Vas not present at-the meeting, and Mr. Horkness requested the secretary, of the board to liana his certificate to him at tho same time extending to him the best wishes and congratulations of the board. -. Mr T. Shields, representative of the Royal Humane Society, said the three rescues were carried out under most gallant circumstances. On a previous occasion Mr. Black had rescued a drowning 'person and for that action he had received recognition from the Eoyal Humane Society. ~„ , ■ ,/ In presenting the certificates to Messrs. Wright, Lewis, and Bennett, all three of whom are young men, Mr. Harkncss complimented the recipients on their bravery and said he hoped their respective careers iu lite would ever be successful.
