HIGH COMAiTSSIONrThVS CABLED EEPOET. The Department of Agriculture has following cablegram, dated August 21, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— ■• "Meat-Market steadier. Better demand for ' fresh beef and mutton, of which there is a small supply. Prices firmer, beef, Is. 5Jd.; mutton, Is. KM.; lamb, Is. lid. Imported: Maximum fixed prices unchanged. "Butter.—Government price will be raised to 2s. BJd. wholesale, 3s. retail as from August 23. Irish: .Small supply, quoted at .£2l to .£2l 10s., but demand is not brisk at this figure. English: Average price is £19 17s. Gd. Danish: Production reported to be well maintained, but milk supplies are likely to decrease from now on. Also reported that Food Ministry has been unable to conclude agreement with Denmark for new, con tract on account ot\high prices. Present contract expires at the end of this month. "Cheese.—English: Domand continues slow, and is chiefly for lower-priced descriptions. Quotations range from £8 to £9 25.; Canadian, spot, demand is quiet: White, £7 IBs.; colonred, £7 17s. Quotations c.i.f. firmer, coloured £8, but no business has been done.
"Homp.—Manila market firmer. Moderate business has been done, 'J' grade, April-June to June-August, shipments now quoted at JM;. August-October shipment sold .tftl Ita. and up. New Zealand .market nuiet Highpoints, spot, sold £H; August-October shipment quoted at .£53 sellers; fair, soot, ,£52; August-October shipment, -£Sl."
