In a paper, "Why Pofrol is Bound to go Higher," read "before the Institution of Automobile Engineers (England), Dr. W. R. The increasing popularity of the scuttle dash with the control pedals well away below and forward of tho instrument .board has caused a trouble which many motorists may have noted with discomfort. The space below these scuttles beoomes uncomfortably hot, particularly so in summer time. Especially is this the case where no provision is mado for letting the hot air get away. Thero is need for adjustable" ventilators whielii will allow of the entry of enough cold air to counteract tho heating due to the engine. But sometimes the ventilators cause a draught as uncomfortable as thp overheating they aro designed to mitigate. The best mo'thod of arranging these ventilators is to place them in 6uch a position and to shroud them inside in such a way that the incoming air is not directed backwards towards the seat, but forward towards tho engine. In this way the cooling air is broken un and a draught avoided. If the ventilators are adjustable as to the amount of air space which may be opened, it becomes an easy matter to strike a happy mean, which will render the inside space comfortablo by reducing the temperature without causing a draught.
