THE MARATHON RACE. Antwerp, August 21. The final of the 3000 Metres Steeple, chase (a mile and seven furlongs) resulted: Hodge (Britain), 1; Flynn (America), 2; Ambrosial (Italy), 3. Won easily, in lOmin. 2 l-ssec. Hodge ran the American off his feet. The .final of the Pole-jumping resulted: Fos9 (America),' 4 metres 9 centimetres— a record. The final of the 200 Metres (218.7) re-, suited: Woodring (America), 1; Paddock (America), 2; Edward (Britain), 3; Murc'hison (America), 4. Davidson (New Zealand) ran third to Murchison and Edward in the semi-final.
In the final of the 10,000 Metres (6} miles),. Nurmi (Finland) was first, Guillemot _ (France) second, and J. Wilson (Britain} third, Macario (Italy) fourth, and Eatton (Britain) fifth. Time, 31min. 45 4-ssec, The final of the 400 Metres (437.4yard5.), resulted: Rudd (South Africa),'l; Butler (Britain), 2; Engdhal • (Sweden), '3; Shea' (America), 4. Time, 49 3-sseo. Kolemannen (Finland) won the Marathon Race (28 miles 385 yds.), in drenching rain.—Router. (Eeo. August 22, 515 p.m.) •Antwerp, August 21. . There were 47 starters in the Marathon Race. Gitsham led a bunch of a. dozen' until eighteen miles had been covered, when Kolemannen took the lead. The latter was a quarter of a mile ahead at 21 miles, and won by a hundred yards. Lossman (Esthonia) was second, and Valeria (Italy) third. Time, 2hr. 32min. 85sec. Leroy (America) ran seventh, and Mills (England) thirteenth. Gitsham had foot trouble, and retired six miles from home.—"The Times." (Reo. August 23, 11.10 p.m.) Antwerp, August 22. Hay (New South Wales), Stedman (Victoria), Kirkland (Now South Wales) and Herald (Now South Wales) have qualified 1 for the semi-final of the 100 metres (109.3yd5.) swimming.- "The Times." AVeight-throwing was won by M'Donald (America), who threw 11 metes 264 centimentres.
