THE VACANT MtfBRAY SEAT. Sydney, August 23. The Government's intentions respecting the Murray vacancy aro causing interest in political circles in the absenco of machinery to conduct 'by-elections. Tho Progressives contend that they are entitled to fill Mr. Beeby's seat. It is stated that tho Government favours tho introduction of legislation to provide for the election of the runner-up at the Goneral Election in all cases of by-elec-tions. Tho Murray runner-up is a Labour candidate, who, if elected, will definitely ensure tho Government's majority. No action is likely to bo taken until the censure motion is finished with.—Press Assn.
