Mr. H. D. Grocott took up the duties of Chief Postmaster at Wellington yesterday. Mr. Fred Chisholm, who has been filling the position for some months, will go to Dunedin to be Chief Postmaster there after he has had two or three weeks' holiday.

Mr, J, Alexander, who has been promoted to the position of Superintendent, Telegraph Office Dunedin, has been an officer of tho Post and Telegraph Department for the past 42 years. After performing duty at various stations as telegraphist for a period of 25 years, Mr. Alexander was promoted to the position of Supervisor on the staff of tho Wellington Telegraph Office. Subsequently he held appointments an Senior Supervisor and Second Assistant Superintendent, on the same staff. On August 1, 1917, Mr. Alexander was promoted to tho position of Superintendent, Telegraph Office. Wanganui, Early last year he was promoted to the position of Senior Inspector, South Island. A few months ago he was transferred to the position of Senior Inspector, North Island.

Advice has been received by the Com. missioner of Police (Mr. J. O'Donovan) of the sudden death at Whangarei early on Sunday morning of Inspector Mullanoy, in charge of the North Auckland district, which position ho had occupied for several months. The late Inspector Mullaney was for some years stationed at Christchurch. Ho was a capable officer, and highly respected, and his death will be widely regretted.
