PEATHERSTON NOTES

Featherston, August 18. It is understood that the Eoathcrston Borough Council has determined to oppose the Rimutaka deviation movement unless the routs via .Wainui-o-mata is agreed upon. The Featherston Progress League appears less bellicose, but is not actively supporting the big Wairarapa deputation. At a general meeting.of the South Wairarapa School Committees' Association it was reported that eight of the nine remits advocated on behalf of the association at the Dominion Conference were adopted, and all formed tho basis of proposals submitted to the Prime Ministeri t o Ssr £ A - c - Holms (president) and J. S. Henderson (secretary) were thanked for their service? as' delegates. Mr. J. M. Nicholls (Carterton) was elected president vico Mr, Holms (who is leaving the Wairarapa), and tho Eev. A. W. Compton (Greytown) vice-president in place of. the Bev. B. IT. Catherwood (Peatherston). who is leaving for Evans Bay. # Mr. Holms was specially thanked for his services as founder of the association and the Kev. B. H. Catherwood for his loyal co-operation. Mr. A. J. White, Dominion secretary, was congratulated on his eleotion to tho board, and Mr. Nioholls's candidature for tho Wairarapa Ward was supported.
