MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE FAILS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, August 18. A sequel to tho tragedy at Mokau, in the Whangarei district, in' which Piripin, otherwise Douglas Phillips, met his death as a result of gunshot wounds in. tlie head, was a charge of manslaughter, heard to-day in the Supremo Court, against Wiremu Pita. Accused was or, iginally charged with murder, but this was thrown out by tho Grand Jury- Deceased mot his death on May 30 after urinlting with accused and others in his own house. Evidence was given on the lines of that given in the Lower Court. XV evidence was called for the defence, ana after a retirement of rather uioro than half an hour the jury returned a terdjet of not guilty. Accused was discharged. ____^______
