Booth and Co., Christchurch, advise that their London house cables under date August 11 that at-tho tallow sales this week prices advanced sharply, with a strong demand, lower qualities advancing from <£14 to .£ls 10s., better qualities from J? to Jl2 10s. per ton. They quote:—Ediblo mutton, 70s. fid.; edible beef, 705.; good mutton. 775. fid.; ■rood beef, 775. Gd.; good colour, 1 7s. 6d.; no colour, 70s. (Id.; gut, "os. Owinc to scarcity of coal, the Masterton gasworks made a reduction in pressure after 10 o'clock oil Saturday night. It is stated that there is plenty of coal awaiting delivery on tho Wellington wharves, but tho difficulty is to get it placed on the railway trucks owing t« the wet weather cf thei past few days.
