EXAMPLES OP PRODIGIOUS WASTE (Rec. August 15, 11.5 p.m.) London, August 14. _ A report on public accounts, containing glaring examples of prodigious waste, gives instances in connection with tho erection of hutments which verge on being scandals. Jluch money was sjient in the Ministry of Information without any attempt at securing Treasury approval. The Commissioners found that there was much unnecessary loss through replies administration. A total of j£700,000 was advanced to the Y.M.C.A., of which .£IOO,OOO only was repaid. It was eventually decided that tho balance should lie treated as a War Office grant in respect of such services as education and food production. The Department made a loss of four million pounds on various schemes whioh were over-optimistically undertaken.— Aua.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
