GOVERNMENT DEFEATED ON SNAP VOTE. (Rec. August 15, 5.5 p.m.) Cape Town, August 13. In tiie Assembly, the Government was defeated on a snap vote by 43 votes to' on a proposal-to raise the abatement on income tax from £300 to .£SOO for married men. The majority consisted of Labourites, Nationalists, and half-a-<lozen Unionists, including Mr. Smart, leader of the party.—Renter.
