ANNUAL MEETING OF THE GEOLOGICAL SECTION. Tho annual meeting of the Geological Section ot the Philosophical Society was held last evening, Jlr. P. 6. Morgan presiding. Tile election of officers resulted as follows:— Chairman, Mr. IT. T. Fcrrar; vicechairman, Mr. G. H. TJttlcy; secretary and treasurer, Dr. Cotton; committee, Messrs. E. W. Holmos, i!. IC. Lomas, P. G. Morean, and Drs. J. Henderson and J. A. Thomson. It was decided that the incoming committee should arrange for at least olio field exoursion annually. Mr. M. Onglcy read a paper on "The Geology of the Collingwood District." After mentioning the main features of the district lio said that there was a valuable deposit of iron ore there. When a market was created in New Zealand for this product and suitable coal could ho obtained, It would bo a valuable asset to the Dominion. Some people declared that the coal to he found in the district would bo suitable for tho develonment of t.lic ore. The district was Illicitly hushed, and difficult to cover. Ho illustrated his paper with sneoimens of the various rock formations to be found In tho district.
