WELL-KNOWN CITIZEN ARRESTED. .By Tolesrranh-l'rcss Association.. Dunedin, August 11. A sensation was treated in the city this afternoon when it tannic known tlint Matthew Braiiley, a well-known figure in civic circles, had been arrested on a. charge of unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl fourteen years of age. Accused,, who i». 52 years of age, conducts a bootmaking business in the city, and camo into special prominence during the war period owing to the active part he took in connection with recruiting. He is a Justice of the Peace, a member of the Dunbdin City Council, nnd at present.!s chairman of the (ias Committee. He wns brought before the Police Court and remanded cn bail to August 20.
