AND THE.BRITISH NAVY,
■To recognise 'the debt-which Hie Do. minion owes to the sailors of the TCoyal Navy and 'the 'mercantile marine, a scheme was initiated in July, 1918, under ■'-.which sheepowners would donate all or i 'portion of their profits from the sale ol surplus wool in England tea fund to bo 'called "The New Zealand' Sheepowners' Acknowledgment of Debt to British Sea"men Fund" for the benefit ,of depend- • "ants ojisailors of the British ,Navy. and 'v/mercaSile marine who have been wounded or have lost their lives in the defence of the Empire. Tho practical interest "•' manifested by • woolgrowers throughout ; the Dominion in this appeal was very general, and a substantial sum should "be.available in the Hear future for the ■ objects of the scheme. In view of the _ Prime Minister's Tecent public announcement that a distribution of wool profits is shortly to be made, a notice appears in. another col- - umu of this issue drawing the attention of sheepowners who have donated surplus wool profits to this fund to a meet- ' ing of contributors which will be held ; in the Old Chamber, Parliament Buildings, on Wednesday, August 18, at ' 10 ' o;m. ' .Whilst drawing attention to this meetang the trustees • desire to tafce the opportunity of earnestly appealing for the sympathetic and generous support of those who have not contributed to the fund.
