SCHOOL FOOTBALL/ In order, to give the selectors an opportunity of picking the Wellington school representative team to play against Woirarapa, Manawatu, anil Wanganui, nt Wei I'listim, cp.tlv in September, two matches have hecn arranged between the schools of the city and tlioso of the llntt Valley. The first test match was played at Petono •yesterday, and after a good tussle resulted in a wlii for the city schools by 19 points to 9. The city forwards were heavier than their opponents' pack, and were successful in seeming the ball, but a weal! link in their back division, combined with i'le wood taeltliii" of the Valley bo.vs, nullified many of their efforts. The Valley forwards worked solidly, and wore well supported by, their backs, but the latter received few opportunities. Tho winners' tries were feared by Shannon (2), and Walls (3), N. Fordliam and Stewart each converting one. Wilkinson, Anson, and Cliurchhouse scored for tho losers. ' Tho return game will take place at Wakefield l'ark on Friday next. After a poor exhibition of football at the Kilbirnie ground yesterday afternoon *a company of Blenheim Cadets defeated No. 36 Company, l'etone, who played six men short, by 8 points to nil.
