At a special meeting of the Board ef College Governors held yesterday , afternoon Mr. T.'R. Cresswell, M.A., was appointed headmaster of Wellington College in succession to Mr. J. P. Firth, and will take up his duties at the beginning of next.cvenr. Mr. Ctesswell, wlio was selected lrom sixty-four applicants'for the position, is at present the Senior Inspector, of Secondary in New Zealand, and has his homd in Chrisichurch. He it 51; years of nge, and is married. Mr. i Cresswell was educated at tho Boys' High School at Christchiircii and Canterbury College, where he took his B.A. degree in 18!)!), and his .M.A. with honours in f.atin and English in .1890. He had touching experience at.the Boys' High School at Wangnnui, the Technical School, AVnnganui, and for a considerable' period he tausht and was headmaster at Rangiora High School. In .1914 •he was promoted to be temporary Inspector of Secondary Schools, and in 1918 he was elevated to the position of Senior Inspector of Secondary Schools. In his younger years Mr. Cresswell was a fine athlete. iind he has distinguished himself ns nn officer in, connection. ,wv'h the Volunteer nnd '■Territorial movements in Canterbury.
