NETTING TROUT

IN THE WAIRARAP.A LAKE. Some months ago Mr. A. P. Whatman, of the AVairarapa, proposed to start a wheme under which trout could be netted for sale to the public from tyie Wairarapa Lake, and the support_-of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society was asked for. The matter was referred to a committee, with power to take evidence .and net, and on July 30, a meeting of the committee tho following resolution was unanimously adopted:— "After careful examine/lion of tho proposal from overy point of view, the Moiety is forced to tho conclusion that tho netting of the lako for the purpose of taking trout for sale purposes would be detrimental to the interests of sport, and would in a few years' time destroy tho reserve from which tho waters oi tho society's district are re-stocked. The society is therefore reluctantly compelled to oppose the scheme."
