AMENDMENT TO FURNITURE WORKERS' AWARD
In accordance with tho judgment in which; it announced a readjustment of the basic wage, the Arbitration Court has amended the award of the furniture trade workers in the Wellington Industrial District—(l) By increasing .the minimum wages of journeymen cabinetmakers, upholsterers, chair and frame makers, machinists, w«6d carvers, turndrs, and polishers from Is. lOhl. an hour to 2s. an hour. (2) Bv increasing the minimum, wages for picture frame makers and wire mattress makers from Is. Od. an hour to Is. IOJd. an hour. (3) By increasing the minimum wages for labourers employed at timber stacking, furnituro backing, and other unskilled work from Is. fid. air hour to Is. 7d. The rates mentioned carry a bonus of 3d. an hour. The amendment includes a rise in wages for apprentices in the trade, the new rates being as follow:—First year, 15s. a week; sectind year, 225. Od.; third year, 305.; fourth year, 375. J3d.; fifth year, 50s. Tho operation of the amendment is to bo retrospective to May 1 last.
