Tho Marino Dopartmont has been advised by Captain Nicholas, of the steamer Karu, that the vcbscl passed a large dead whale in the track of shipping between Wellington and Lyttelton on Wednesday, north-east of Kaikoura. The carcase of the monster, which is a danger to smaller vessels, ivaa adrift in latitude 42dcg., 17mln. south, and longitude 173dfg. 67min. east, and was drifting towards tho northcast.
