KARORI RIFLE CLUB

ANNUAL .SMOKE CONCERT. Tho annual' smoke concert and presentation of prizes of the. Karon Tiiflo Club took place .in the Old Navals Clubhouse last night. Mr. H. T. Marshall, president of the club, occupied tho chair, and there was a large attendance, including Colonel Ti. J. Collin?, Chief Executive Officer of the Domnron Eiflo Association, Captain W. M- Bell, Group Commander, and the presidents of tho various local ride clubs. Tho toast of tho "Navy and Army . was proposed by Mr. W. Skegg. _ Ttesponso was made by Captain Bell, who said that training was absolutely, nccessarv to make an armv proficient, and he besought the heln of rflemen in making the Senior Cadets efficient in shooting. The Cadets, and 'the country generally, needed tho help of nil riflemen in'order that the rising generation might be able to maintain the nrest'.ge achieved by the. New Zealand Division during tho late war. Mr. J. Burn? proposed the toast of tho "Dominion Eiflo Association." He said bo was pleaded that Colonel E. J. Collins still took an interest in the welfare of riflemen, and stated that he had no' doubt that Colonel Collins would see that New Zealand was represented at tho New South Wales meeting in October. Mr. Burns also referred to tho services that had been rendered to.rifle shooting by Mr. H. T. Marshall, and congratulated him on his reappointment to the D.E.A. Executive'. Colonel Collins, in reply, stated that as the British team would not be coming to New Zealand, the next D.E.A. meeting would take place at Trentham on March 3, 1921. Ho hoped that tho meeting would be a success, and that not fewer than GOO marksmen would attend. Matters in connection with tho programme were well forward, and the amount to bo competed for would he .fil'tffl. The prizes in (ho King's Prize Match would total .£2OO, with ,£SO for tho winner. The prize for the Champion Teams' Match had been increased from £15 to £20. Colonel Collins con r I eluded by appcaline to all riflemen to ! take an interest in tho shooting practices of tho Senior Cadets, for on them depended tho futuro defence of the Dominion. Several other toasts were honoured during tho evening, and musical and elocutionary items wero contributed liy Messrs. K.Mea.tes, L. Inch, Tuohey, V. M'Kenzio, W. Goudie, Frascr, Thompson, and M. Dickson.
