SHIPS FOR FARMERS
A CONFERENCE PROPOSED. That the fanners of the. .T)oniinio'n should lose no time in establishing a cooperative shipping company was urged hy delegntes to Hie conference of the New Zealand Fanners' Union yesterday. Mr.' J. Botldie (Auckland) said that until such lime as the producers took steps to secure their own ships they would remain in the hands of the'shipping monopolies. He moved that the producers ask Ihe Prime Minister (o call a' conference of farmers and trading interests to discuss the question of establishing a shipping line, and lake action if necessary. In reply to Mr. E. Evans (Kaiapoi), Fir Tames Wilson said that shipping companies would he prepared to sell farmers nnv number of their old ships at high prices, and build new ones afterwards. That was the great danger. . Mr. 0. K. Wilson (To Kuiti) statedthat they should.keep the, shipping proposal before the Government, and use it as a lever when they wore negotiating with the shipping companies regarding freights. The motion was carried.
