PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Pctono Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor -(Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) presiding. The Prime Minister advised that tho council's suegestlon regarding incroasinir the pound sustenance fees had been noted for consideration. Tho Minister of Justice (Hon. E. P. lice) advised that, the council's request, that, the anlount paid for clerical services in connection with tho Licensing Committee be reduced, would receive his careful consideration.-^ Tho Minister of Public Health advised that a new Health Bill would be Introduced this session, and it was desired to secure tho assistance of the local bodies in framing an Act which would remove most of the existing difficulties and nnomaliea in the Public Health administration. A sltctch of the proposals was enclosed with a request for any comment or suggestions tho council might desireto maltc—The communication -was received. A case of diphtheria and ono of pneumonia existing in the borough were reported by tho district health officer. A letter was Tcceire'd from the ICorokoro and Maungaraki Ratepayers' and Residents' Association protesting a?o.inst inerenslncr the cost of carting coal to the Hill, and pointing out that It was the only part of the boroueh charged a cartnjfc The gas worlts manager reports ed that it had been found necessary to increase the cost of cartage because the price previonsly charged did not pn.v. It was resolved that the gas work 3 manager's action be approved. .Mr. W. G. Cloud wrote resigning his position on tho retail coal staff, on account of his <?oin,? farming. It was resolved that tho resignation bo accented, and a. letter be sent wishing him success in his new sphere of employment.
