By Telegraph—S-peoial Correspondent, Palmerston North, July 26. At a meeting of the Patriotic Society at Palmerston North this afternoon, it was reported that close upon 500 claims for assistance had come in from sick and wounded soldiers. The society has over -£50,000 in hand, and a proposal was made to allocate <£30,000 for present cases, leaving ,£20,000 for contingencies, but a special committee was sot up to go thoroughly into the matter and bring down proposals for allooation.
