LECTURES AT CANTERBURY j COLLEGE. By TelegrnDli—Press Association. . Chrlstchurch, July 20. Lectures in practical journalism under Mr A. G. Henderson have been commenced this term at Canterbury College in accordance with <i condition attached to tho scholarship fund of dCSOOO given by Mr. Robert Bell with a view ultimately to tho establishment of a university school of journalism at Canterbury "College. Although tins lectures bavo been started in the second term when the college students have mapped their ooursei out for a full year, the popularity of the subject is demonstrated by tho fact that the lectures have drawn an attendance of twenty students. A number of tliem are cadets and juniors in the local newspaper offices, who lwvo been quick to tako advantage of tho opportunity presented. It is. perhaps, a sign of ihe times that included among tho students are one or hvo advertisement writers, or men hoping to qualify as advertisement writers, who have recognised the value of a course in journalism as an aid in thoir own profession.
