TEACHERS' SUPERANNUATION
AMENDMENT OF CONDITIONS DESIKED. By Telegraph-Press Association. Cliristchurch, July 2G, The Hon. C. J. I'arr (Minister of Education) was interviewed by Professor Galiatt, chairman of tho Professorial Board of Canterbury College, as a deputation representing: tho professors and higher-salaried public school teachers on tho subject of tko maximum pension oE J!300 per annum at present payable under tho teachers' superannuation 6cheino. It was pointed out. that tho amouut paid by the higher-salaried contributors to tho fund would give a better return if paid into a privato insurance .company. It was asked that tho £300 per annum limit bo eliminated and tho pension bo paid on a general basis. The Minister replied that this matter had already engaged his attention and that of Cabinet. Ho recognised at once that thcro was force in the views placed beforo him, but one difficulty was that any alteration of tho maximum pension would have to apply, not only to the teachers' superannuation fund, but also to tho Public Service superannuation fund. Reports woro boing obtained front the Public Servico Commissioner and from tho Government Actuary and theea when completed would placed _ beforo Cabinet and a final decision arrived at, Mr. Parr added that he thought thurs would bo littlo or no opposition to an iimendhient of the teachers' superannuation fund conditions in tlio direction <liv' sired, because only comparatively few. would bo affected and this would nsJl Beriously prejudice the, fund.
