But what, asks the London "Atorning Post." has become of the First Recruit, the first baby born after trn cession of the island to Germany. He was a little hero in his way, and a Briton at heart. When the Kaiser and Kaiserin landed on the island shortly after his birth, Baby the First was in a vory pugnacious mood. Ho tore tho middle out of the Kalserin's bouquet, _to begin with. Nor was ho more submissive to the All-Highest. When the Kaiser attempted to pat his cheek Baby the "First raise<l his littlo fist and smote his Sovereign across tho face, turned his back on him. Onei hopes-one does not know-that Baby the First escaped from ins native land to fight for tho country that was really his. 1
