LOSS BY A FATHER'S DEATH
APPORTIONMENT OF DAMAGES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, July 23. ■ An interesting point in regard to the pecuniary loss caused to a typiste by her father's death was raised before Mr, Justice Salmond in tho Supremo Court this morning during the hearing of an aj, ulication for tlio apportionment of .£750 damngos paid by the Union Steam Ship Compan# of New to the dependants of an employed, William Thomas Dortald. who was killed on the wharf 111 September, 1919. The legal position of Donald's youngest daughter, who 19 employ! Ed as a typiste in a ci'-y office, was discussed, tlio question raised being whether she was dependent when she earned her own living, although under 21 years of age. The girl made uo claim for damages, lllis Honour asltcd if tho Court could eay that she suffered no pecuniary loss l)v her fa tiler's death. After discussion the Court awarded .£SO to the youngest, .£2OO to another daughter (who was over 21. but not earning wages), and JCSOO to the widow, Mrs. Emma Donald.
