At 1,40 sho was three-eights ot a mile ahead, and at 1.58 two hundred yards ahead. ~The wind, was blowing six knots, and the yachts, close inshore, made a pretty thrash to windward, heeling over in tho (strengthening wind. The Shamrock's flat bow pounded the rolling sea. At 2.15 the. Resolute crossed the Shamrock's bow, leading by a .quarter of a mile. At 2.45 she was) leading by three-eighths of a mile, and ihe- wind had increased to 10 knots, . The Resolute gained' slightly at every tack, and turned thci mark at 21min. 21 sec. past 3. The Shamrock turned at 23min. fisec. past 3. At 3.55 the Resolute was half a mile ahead, and ten miles from the finish; and at 4.15 was 300 yards ahtead. The wind held well,, and at LIS the .Resolute led by. a quarter of a mile. A mile from the finish the Shamrock nearly caught the Resolute. . Tlio Shamrock caught, the Resoluto half.a mile from the finish, and crossed the line first, at 3min. 28sec. past 5. and the. Resolute crossed 19..seconds later, the same intervhl as separated their starting times. .
