Arthur Mayhew, who was. employed >n the Ordnance Department at Featherstoii, atrtl for whom Mr. 0. 0. Alazengarb ap- ' pcarcd, pleaded guilty to receiving certain stores''of., the £12 165.,. the property .of the New Zealand Government, knowing the'same to have been dishonestly obtained. There were some extenuating circumstances, and the Magistrato imposed a fine of £15, with costs and expenses totalling £4 ss. _Fredericki H. M'Gregoiy for whom Mr,. J.;o!Donovan~appeared. was charged wita assaulting Catherin'Beard, also with failing to" maintain"his, child, who was in charge-'of the complainant. The Magis-trate-dismissed,the charge of assault and ordered--Jf'Grcgor to pay .10s. per week towards the, support of his child. . The. Inspector of Awardß (Mr. R. T. Baileyl.proceeded against A. Bowden, grocer, Kaiwarra, for'failing to close his'shop at 7 :p.m:' in accordance "with the provisions , ot-a.-grocers'- requisition. The tleieniiii.|it, vybo. did, not appear, was convicted and .fined.£2,. with-7s..,costs. . . C. Bowden, also a grocer'at Kaiwarra, was similarly charged. Tho defendant itated;that -he-felt compelled to keep ms . tnop'iopen on accouut.ot his brother who wasf'in-opposition,^-failing to close liis place. nHe, was convicted and. fined 305., »nd cost 7s. Xlailate'and Vardey, reataurant proprietors,, for whom Mr. O. tj.' Mazsngarb appeared, wero convicted of - working assistants atter 10.30.p.m. without obtaining the .necessary permits, and were lined £1 iua costs 7s. . . . The Paramount Millinery. Company, /Ltd. (Mr., O. C. llazengarb), pleaded guilty to - employing young persons under 16' years of age without ootaining tho necessary permits. .There were six informations. Owt,o tho death of ouo of'the priuoipals, ' -. matters in connection with tho business somewhat upset, and the obtaining of: the permits was overlooked. Morse, licensee of the Clyde , Quay Hotel, was charged witli uermittiuK drunkenness on* his licensed premises from the evidence it appeared that when the police visited the hotel at 3.30 p m they saw a man in the public bar who! they Baid, was in a, drunken condition. Tho man came to the hotel soon after 'J a.m. and appeared ,to have be(4i ,on a uruukeii bout. He was ordered oilt of th» hotel. on two or three occasions, b/t returned eaoh time. The man had also been refused liquor. After hearing the evidence the Magistrate held that the man was drunk and that lie had been permitted to remain on the premises. Defendant yas convicted of permitting drunkenness and was fined £10 and ordered To nay costs and expenses. The conviction' was not recorded on. tho license. Mr, H u Leary appeared for the .defendant;
