A prisoner in the New Plymouth Gaol, Allau Talbert, aged 65 years, who was serving a. sentence of rcforinativo detention on his second conviction for icdooent assault, committed suicido yestefrday afternoon, when returning fvom work. Ho suddenly said, "Good-bye friend," to tho warder, and leapt o\er a bank 50 feet high into a quarry. Hi foil on tho rails for the trucks in th« quarry, and expired an hour later. An inquest to-day resulted in a verdwt that Tnlbort committed Biiicido and that tiicre was no neglect on tho part of the officials.
