NATIONAL DEFENCE LEAGUE
ELECTION OF WELLINGTON DISTRICT COUNCIL. ■A o ';™ steps are now being taken to establish district councils and branches ot the National Defence League throughout Now Zealand. Already strong provisional district councils have "been formed at Dunedin and Christchurch, and satisfactory arrangements have been made for the election of similar bodies ui -luckland, Wangauui, Napier, Grcynioiith. and other places. A number of local branches have also been established. Tho work in Wellington up to the 'present has .been carried on by the Provisional General Council, which, with iU b««dquarters at Wellington, is responsible for the urgunisa'.ion of the league throughout tho "Dominion and for determinim: policy-questions. As the vohiiuo of work being performed by the General Council is now Incoming very extensive it has been decided to take steps for I lie election of the \Velling'.on District Council, which will undertake the duties of establishing 1 ' branches and generally forwarding the campaign locally in iVvotir of sound defence. Fortius purpose a general meeting of members and intending members ~f the league will be held in the conference chamber, Farmers' institute Buildings, Feallicrslou Street, on Thursday evening next, when it is expected that there will bo a large and enthusiastic attendance.
