' INCREASE IN ALLOWANCE. Tho allowanco to limbless men attending the Dofenco Department's artificial limb factory and workshops for the repair or supply of artificial limbs will be increased from ss. to 7e. Gd. per diem as from August 1 next. The Defence authorities state tbat it is to bo understood that this nllowanco is granted in lieu of accommodation in hospital. Mid that the Director-Goncral of Medical Services may instruct that a limbless man is required to reside in hospital during his period of attendance, in which case the allowance will not be payable. -This allowance will not be payable to limbless men when thoir at tendance at the factor,? or workshops docs not necessitate their absence from home.

Limbless men while attending artificial limb factories for .repair of thoir artificial limbs should apply to the Commissioner of Pensions for supplementary pensions for the period tliey are in attendance at the factory or workshop, providing such attendanco necessitates their being away from their homes and leaving their employment.
